Nissan is on the
move once again, especially in the sporting segment where it hasn’t played for
years. We all know the incredible GT-R
by now, but until recently that’s only one of two Nissans –including the 370 Z
– that we’ve been able to count on when it comes to performance. NISMO is about to change all that.
NISMO is like the AMG
of Nissan, although it still has some independence. Perhaps one could say NISMO
has not had much to play with, until recently with the Juke. Having had a quick look and decided the little crossover has
more potential than it lets on,
NISMO engineers then went to work to prove this. In the end they were able to
usher in 160kW of power from the 1.6-litre turbo engine. That’s just
about as powerful as the new VW Golf GTI.
To ensure go matches looks, several pieces of kit were
fitted, including a more aggressive front bumper, wider side skirts, a new tailgate spoiler, some red detailing
and sweet 18-inch alloy wheels. One large
tailpipe should emit some seriously enticing sounds at full engine glory.
And the best bit? Nissan
South Africa will sell the Juke NISMO in limited numbers locally within
months to come! No pricing confirmed yet but we guess anything between R350 000 and R400 000.
