NEW MERCEDES-BENZ A-CLASS RECALLED OVER AIRBAG ISSUE

Mercedes-Benz has had its first scare with the new A-Class after it emerged that there was a possible flaw in the cover of the front passenger airbag. As a result of this discovery, the German premium maker has decided to recall about 6 000 units of the A-Class in order to fix this problem.

“The airbag expands, but not the way we want it to,” according to a Mercedes-Benz spokesman. No further details of the fault were supplied. There wouldn’t be many of the cars affected in South Africa, given then this model was only launched here a few weeks ago.

Nevertheless, owners of affected models have been contacted and will have to take their cars into a dealership for up to three and a half hours. The range in question is the A180 CDI, A200 CDI, A220 CDI, A180, A200 and A250. The hot A 45 AMG with 265kW only goes on sale in Mzansi next month.
