FORD MUSTANG TO LOSE V6, V8 FOR 4-CYLINDER?

The greenies are like water; they infiltrate absolutely everything. This time it’s the turn of one of Detroit’s greatest icon, the Ford Mustang. According to Motor Authority, the people’s pony is about to ditch its soul. Yep, Mustang is set to get a 4-cylinder engine pretty soon! Gone will be the V8s and V6s honest Americans adore so much. Or will they?

Not so. The 4-cylinder engine is said to be an EcoBoost utility with a turbo. It might displace 2.3-litres in size and should produce between 170kW (228 bhp) and 190kW (255 bhp) if it were to come into production. There might even be a 2.7-litre EcoBoost to boot, spewing out up to 230kW (308 bhp).

The reason for this is that every manufacturer is under tremendous pressure to drastically cut its volume C02 emissions, and most have found that by installing smaller, turbocharged engines, this can be achieved. At the same power there is no loss in power; in fact many are reporting greater power gains compared to same-sized naturally aspirated engines.
