GENEVA 2011: ALFA ROMEO SHOWS OFF 4C

Alfa Romeo is gunning for the big premium guns lately, as evidenced by this 4C Concept car unveiled at Geneva 2011. The car is inspired of course, by the exceptionally beautiful but apparently flawed 8C of the recent past. This is essentially the more accessibly 8C.

Powered by the same 1.8 turbo engine found in the new Giulietta, the 4C could muster close to 150kW from it. Placed mid-ship (it’s not in front nor right at the rear), the 4-cylinder engine is light and preppy, as well as more fuel-efficient than its V6 counterparts. Alfa has fitted the new TCT double-clutch gearbox as a motivator, sending power to the rear wheels as a result. The 0 – 100km/h time is claimed at under 5 seconds.

The Alfa Romeo 4C goes on sale in Europe in 2012. Depending on price and economic conditions, we might even see it here in South Africa.
