BREAKING OUT: BMW 6 SERIES COUPE!

Another big launch for BMW is on the cards as it unveils the all-new 6 Series Coupe. In January the German premium car maker launched the new soft-top 6 Series Convertible to the international media down in Cape Town. Soon it will be the hard-top Coupe’s turn.

Chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk’s team was inspired by waves or flowing water when it came to penning the car’s exterior lines. While its predecessor was heavily criticised for its whale-like booty, 6 has turned the situation 180 degrees as now it seems the rear is a favourite. The car has been designed 74 millimetres longer and 39mm wider, but remains a 2+2 seat configuration, meaning two people up front and two at the back. Rear space may of course be a little cramped but it certainly can take four adults with relative ease.

New innovations include full LED headlights with Adaptive systems, a rear-view camera, surround view and night vision. Bang & Olufsen has again come to the party with a superb sound system that features a central speaker that rises through the top of the dashboard.

Power will be sourced from the same places as the Convertible, which means a turbocharged 3.0-litre for the 640i and a twin turbo 4.4-litre V8 for the 650i. The two models put out 235kW and 450Nm, as well as 300kW and 600Nm respectively. We expect the M6 version to produce something close to 440kW from the same 4.4-litre V8. BMW is pairing the 6 Series with its new 8-speed automatic gearbox, although some markets like the US will be able to order the 6-speed manual instead.
