SUZUKI STANDS HIGH ON RETENTION, RESALE SCALE

Suzuki’s range of passenger cars and SUVs are scoring top marks when it comes to value retention at resale.
 
An analysis of data published in the authoritative TransUnion Auto Dealers’ Guide shows that Suzuki passenger cars and SUVs achieve among the highest resale values, relative to their original retail prices, in their segments.
 
The data reflects actual trade values as a percentage of new vehicle list prices over the past 12 months. The values are also determined by dealer returns sent to TransUnion on a monthly basis.
 

Suzuki’s three Grand Vitara models – the Grand Vitara 2.4, Grand Vitara 2.4 AT and the Grand Vitara 3.2 V6 AT – outpaced all their major rivals in resale value terms for month of July 2010. The three models achieved resale values of 78.22%, 78.12% and 77.93 percent respectively.
 
In the process, they trounced the Honda CRV 2.4 i-VTEC RVi (76.74%), the Nissan X-Trail 2.5 SE AT (68.76%), Toyota’s RAV4 2.0 GX (74.78%) and the Subaru Forester 2.5 SE AT (73.22%), as well as four other class contenders.
 
The Suzuki Jimny compact 4x4 dominated its class in resale value terms during July 2010. The highly-rated compact all-terrainer retained 77.54% of its new car selling price during July this year, outscoring both the Daihatsu Terios 4x2 and 4x4 models, which posted values of 71.47 and 71.65% respectively.
 
The SX4, Suzuki’s lifestyle hatchback, also features strongly in resale value terms. According to the TransUnion data, the SX4 2.0 and the SX4 2.0 AT retained 72.47% and 75.22% of their new car value at resale during July 2010 – among the highest in their sector.
 
In the process, they fared better than the Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC EXi Hatch 71.24%), the Nissan Livina 1.6 Acenta + X-Gear (69.44%), the Mazda3 1.6 Sport Dynamic (69.66%), the Dodge Caliber 1.8 SXT (65.26%), Nissan’s Qashqai 1.6 Vista (72.44%) and the Toyota Auris 180 RX (71.59%).
 
Suzuki’s Swift subcompact hatchback also performed favourably in value retention terms during July 2010. The three derivatives – Swift 1.5 GL, Swift 1.5 GLS, and Swift 1.5 GLS AT – scored resale value percentages of 74.51%, 73.25% and 72.41% respectively.
 
Those values were higher than several rivals in this sector, including the Mazda2 1.5 Dynamic (71.49%) and the Toyota Yaris T3+ 5-Door (71.72%). At 73.2%, the Chev Aveo 1.6 LT 5-Door still trailed behind the Swift 1.5 GLS, while the best performers in this segment were the Honda Jazz and the Ford Fiesta.
 
“These figures prove that Suzuki has won the trust of SA motorists in a comparatively short period,” says Kazuyuki Yamashita, managing director of Suzuki Auto SA.
 
“The high value retention attained is not only an indication of the strong demand for our vehicles in the pre-owned market, but also of the confidence consumers have in our products, and the brand as a whole.”
