LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 3 FACELIFT SHOWN IN NEW YORK

Land Rover has unveiled the new facelifted Discovery 3 at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. Launched in Mzansi in 2005 the Discovery 3 or Disco 3 as fans know it, the car is now ready for a new face and engines.

Outside it gains LED lights at the front, a brand new bumper that makes it look like a Range Rover, new headlights and rear LED lights. Fitted wheels are 19-inch diameter with an optional 20-inch available.

On the engine front a new motor is now to be sold with the Disco 3. It’s the 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 co-developed with Jaguar. Power is up 25% from the old 4.4-litre V8 to a maximum of 280kW and 508Nm of torque. The 0 – 100km/h time is claimed at 7.6 seconds. The gearbox is a 6-speed automatic with manual shift from ZF.

I really like the interior from these pics that we see. It looks much more upmarket, with a lot of leather fittings and some wood. The dials and gear lever are different too. LED interior lighting makes the ambience welcoming while things like the door handles feature higher-quality aluminium material.

Other technological features are a heated leather steering wheel, a USB port, iPod connection and an LCD touch screen to operate satellite navigation and entertainment sources.

A second powerplant will be the new 3.0-litre twin turbo diesel making 202kW and 600Nm.

We expect the new facelifted Discovery 3 in South Africa either during the fourth quarter of 2009 or in early 2010.
