BMW X5 M AND X6 M TO MAKE 405KW

Last week BMW unveiled a microsite which is basically dedicated to its two upcoming SUVs, the X5 M and X6 M. Both these cars are extremely powerful vehicles that have been teased before either as spy picture or in official video material.

The microsite aimed to drive people to the site and to let them see the countdown clock that supposedly indicates when exactly these two sports coupes will be unveiled to the public. Being a typical automaker BMW has been quite secretive with details for these cars, specifically power and performance figures. But they made a small boo boo on the microsite and revealed the power figure as 405kW (550hp). The info has since been removed.

Previously I had speculated, based on insider information, that the X5 M and X6 M would use a twin turbo V8 to make about 405kW. A number of firsts will be achieved by these two uber SUVs. Firstly they will be the first official M-badged SUVs from BMW. Secondly it will be the first time BMW releases two M cars at the same time. Third and last, and probably the most telling first is that it’s the first time we see a mass-produced BMW M car with turbocharging technology. BMW M cars have been naturally aspirated so far.
