Kia in North America has let loose details of a turbocharged petrol Sportage called the SX. Main claim to fame? The new group engine that sees a lot more horses being made available to those who buy it. The car would be a welcome addition here where the only excitement in the range is brought about by the turbo diesel. All petrols are quite flat, especially at high altitude places like Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

HONDA ACCORD FACELIFT ENTERS GENEVA 2011

Honda showed the world what it’s been working on for the past couple of years: the new facelift Accord range. Unwrapped at Geneva 2011 last week, the Accord has made subtle exterior changes to the current model in order to keep up with the times. Excitingly the differences are sharper, resulting in a sportier front end and more pronunciation at the back.

Geneva, Switzerland, was the scene where Swedish brand SAAB took the sheets off its new facelift 9-3 range. That might sound laughable to some, since the car was launched well over 6 years ago. Germans would normally do a facelift during a car’s midlife cycle, so around 3 or 4 years after its initial launch.

REAR VIEW CAMERA FOR UPCOMING FORD RANGER BAKKIE

The all-new Ford Ranger bakkie which comes to Mzansi later this year, will be the first bakkie in the country to be offered with a rear-view camera to assist those of use with a bad sense of depth and possibly direction. Rear-view cameras are not new in the market; most of the upmarket executive sedans do offer them either as standard or optionally. For the first time a utility vehicle will benefit from this technology too.

GENEVA 2011: ABT SUPER TUNES AUDI R8 SPYDER

Tuning outfit ABT, which is known for turning VW Group products into megaproducts, is at it again. At the 2011 Geneva show, ABT announced the arrival of the Spyder R8 GT S, a car based on the Audi R8 Spyder. Drama is what this car is all about.
