PORSCHE DIESEL GETS MORE POWER

Porsche will unveil the updated Panamera Diesel at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The car is based on the current facelifted Panamera model. The Panamera Diesel accounts for just 15% of all Panamera sales, having sold about 8 500 units so far. Porsche believe the update will strengthen its case among previous naysayers.

At the heart of it is the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine whose power output is now 224kW, up from 187kW, at 4000rpm. Torque output is also higher at a forceful 650Nm between 1750rpm and 2500rpm. The 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox has been given shorter ratios from 1 to 3, and coupled with the powerful engine, the car is now able to accelerate from 0 – 100km/h in just 6 seconds and has a top end of 259km/h. Fuel economy is said to be 6.4 litres per 100km, translating to a C02 emissions figure of 169 g/km.

Porsche South Africa will announce pricing closer to the time of availability but just as a guide, the outgoing model had a base price of R900 000.
