2005 MINI Cooper JCW GP |
Rumours of a new MINI John Cooper Works GP edition surfaced a couple of months ago. Now it seems
these are actually true, judging from a statement
issued by MINI. A brand new JCW GP will debut at the MINI United Festival this
May in Le Castellet in France.
The previous JCW GP was sold in Mzansi in very limited
numbers (only 29 were available). It
featured the same 1.6-litre supercharged
4-cylinder found in the normal Cooper S,
but instead of 125kW, it made a decisive
165kW, thus outgunning bigger performance hatches like the Golf 5 GTI (147kW) and Ford
Focus ST (165kW).
New JCW GP will feature, among others, a high-performance turbo engine (presumably
the same 1.6-litre), racing-oriented
suspension technology and exclusive, aerodynamically-optimised body components.
What was not said was whether it will only be limited to the hatch body style, or if Coupe and other versions will come up.
