Honda, having
previously showed us a glimpse of a blip of its upcoming 2015 Civic Type R hatch, has apparently confirmed some power figures. And they gave away some
of their own “spy” pictures for all
to enjoy. As far as Honda is concerned, we are all in for a marvellous treat when the new Type R
goes on sale at the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015.
What they said is that it will sport a new 2.0-litre turbo engine (yes, like
everyone else in this league) which will spurt out something above 206kW. Note that 206kW is the same output as the Opel Astra OPC and the new South Africa-spec Audi S3 (and probably brother Volkswagen
Golf R) too. But the above part is good because it says there will be more.
First good sign.
Second promising sign are those four tailpipes
straddling the rear bumper from these pictures. Anything brave enough to whip out
four breathers at any moment deserves a pat on the back, simply for trying. We hope
they deliver.
Third, Honda says it aims to make the new Type R the fastest
front-wheel-drive (FWD) production car
to ever lap the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife.
Major goal this. Mind you, current holder of this particular crown is the
Renault Megane RS Trophy which posted 8
minutes and 7.97 seconds. There’s still a year to develop further.
