The BMW Competition
Package has become available for the new facelifted
M5 and current M6 range. This is
based on the facelifted 5 Series,
which we will discuss in a later story. Competition
Package adds a few sweeter touches to an already sweet pack of wolves, including
a slight power hike for those of us who like our power “more”.
Still keeping the same 4.4-litre
twin turbo V8 engine, BMW now
adds some 11kW to hike maximum power
to 423kW, while lowering the ride
height by some 10mm in the M5. All else remains the same in the
powertrain department, including the 7-speed
double clutch gearbox with an Active
M Differential for better traction. These power increases, says BMW, have
resulted in the cars going 0.1 seconds
faster in the 0 – 100km/h sprint.
There are other benefits to the Package, such as new bespoke
alloy wheels of 20-inches, a sport
exhaust system, an updated steering
wheel (some media had complained about a certain lack of feel), new suspension
and damping systems, as well as a
different trim for the iDrive
console.
The facelift M5 will follow BMW’s launch of the new facelift 5 Series in Mzansi later this
year.
