AUDI MAY BUY ITALIAN SUPERBIKE OUTFIT DUCATI

A story that appeared in Automotive News says that Audi AG is almost ready to announce its purchase of Ducati, the Italian superbike maker. According to this report, Audi has done all the work needed to secure Ducati, including going through its books and lobbying the right management and shareholder support. Audi also owns Lamborghini, another Italian brand, and is itself owned by the Volkswagen Group.

The expected investment into – rumoured to be around €850 million (R8.9 billion) – Ducati can be seen as the latest shot in the company’s ongoing battles against BMW. Audi is targeting BMW as the next biggest seller of premium cars in the world. BMW has its Motorrad motorbike division, but it also owns the quirky Husqvarna brand.
