Manhart can do amazing things with BMW engines. They’ve
proven this over time and this is no different. Using a stock M3 with a 4.0-litre V8 wasn’t going to work, so
they chucked it out and bolted in
something new but familiar. The existing 4.4-litre
V8 found in the X5 M and X6 M
was just the thing.
Remember it was already utilised in the M3 GTS, except there were no turbos
present. Manhart did not lose the
bowels for their version. Instead they added more stuff, such as a larger
intercooler, reinforced rods and pistons, a full titanium exhaust system and others.
In the end the car, nicknamed MH3 V8 RS Clubsport, returns a hectic 551kW and 910Nm of torque,
which is then paired to a 6-speed
automatic with an M5 diff lock. It’s a handful of throttle, but not as much as our very own Rob Green M3 conversion. Nevertheless when the smoke and dust from those 20-inch
tyres have settled, the speedo will have read 100km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds. They say it will pull all
the way just past 350km/h. Bloody hell!
RGM will eat this for breakfast and lunch. Period.
