Toyota is bringing the all-new Yaris hatch to the market this year, including to South Africa. It was presented to the public at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, and hopefully will also arrive at 2011 Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS 2011).
Lots of work awaits the new Yaris as it will be attempting to get back to its old highs. For the first few months after launch, current Yaris shot to the top by selling over 10 000 units, and stayed atop for years thereafter. Currently the car is being outsold by the new Volkswagen Polo and its Polo Vivo brothers.
The cars shown at Frankfurt go by three engines; a 1.0-litre VVT-i, 1.3-litre and a 1.4-litre D-4D turbo diesel. Not sure which one(s) will be sold here. Sadly Toyota is keeping with Japanese rivals’ philosophy of not turbocharging their new engines, unlike their European counterparts. Guess people who buy Yaris do not demand new turbo engines.
