PEUGEOT UNVEILS 3008 HYBRID4, WORLD'S FIRST DIESEL HYBRID

The world’s first ever diesel hybrid car goes on sale in Europe sometime in 2011. Peogeot’s 3008 HYbrid4 is the deliverance of a promise made by Peugeot to its customers of a cleaner motoring future peppered with the company’s well-known engineering prowess and driving satisfaction.

Based on the 3008 which was launched in Mzansi in February, the Hybrid4 is exactly that; a hybrid powertrain. What makes it stand out from the rest is the fact that instead of being paired with a petrol motor, this one uses a 2.0-litre HDi turbo diesel with 120kW of power and 300Nm of torque. The sipper pulls the front wheels while a 27kW electric motor works on the rear wheels. That essentially makes the 3008 HYbrid4 an AWD vehicle. Total system outputs are 147kW and 500Nm, accessed through a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Peugeot claims an average fuel economy figure of 3.8 litres per 100km and C02 emissions of 99g/km. astounding figures indeed, considering the size and power it makes. The best news of all though, is that Peugeot really will sell the car, even in South Africa.
