At the beginning of production, Bugatti had promised to
build only 300 units of the
ultra-fast Veyron. We are almost at
the point of 300, with at least one of them having come to Mzansi’s Johann Rupert, and another being owned
by actor Brad Pitt. Latest is the
new Jean Bugatti.
They have named it after Jean Bugatti, the son of Ettore Bugatti, the company’s founding
father. It’s the second of a series of these cars named after people closely associated with it. Jean
created the 1934 classic Type 57SC
Atlantic which at the time made a “whopping” 150kW.
Fast forward almost 80
years later and you have the 8.0-litre
W16 Jean Bugatti with four turbos
and 10 radiators. It’s based on the
Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse and only three of them will be made at a
cough-inducing price of around R32
million a pop. The three lucky bastards will each get 883kW and 1500Nm of
torque under their feet, with the ability to translate it into a 0 – 100km/h
sprint in just 2.6 seconds. As we
know from the old Top Gear clip, Veyrons can reach 407km/h.
Setting it apart from other special edition Veyrons are
fittings such as the platinum horseshoe
logo on the rear end above the Jean Bugatti signature, black diamond-cut wheels, and a body made of jet black clear-coated carbon fibre.
With this kind of trend happening, it appears the last
Veyron may be the most powerful and exclusive. We bet it will be called the Ettore.
