Ferrari LaFerrari.
The fastest Ferrari ever built. This
is the car that is replacing the Enzo,
a car named after Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari. Only 499 of these will ever be built, and apparently there is interested
from over 1 000 multi-millionaire
collectors already. We’d like to just see one in Mzansi, that’s all.
According to company Chairman and
CEO Mr Luca di Montezemolo, the
LaFerrari was so named “because it is the maximum expression of what defines
our company – excellence. Excellence
in terms of technological
innovation, performance, visionary styling
and the sheer thrill of driving. Aimed at our collectors, this is a truly extraordinary car which encompasses advanced solutions that, in
the future, will find their way onto the rest of the range, and it represents
the benchmark for the entire
automotive industry. LaFerrari is the finest expression of our company’s
unique, unparalleled engineering and
design know-how, including that acquired in Formula 1.”
So to get to the nitty grities, the car is powered by a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 (so Ferrari) that works with an electric
motor. In total the system pushes out 708kW,
which maximum revs of 9250rpm
available, while peak torque is just over 900Nm.
The LaFerrari is a hybrid, and its electric
motor dishes out 120kW. The lithium-ion batteries used are located
underneath the floor. Ferrari says it will blast off from 0 – 100km/h in less than 3
seconds, 0 – 200km/h in less than 7 seconds, 0 – 300km/h in less than 15
seconds and has a top speed of over 350km/h.
A 7-speed DCT double-clutch gearbox
is used.
The car measures 4.7
metres in length, 1.99m in width, 1.1m in height and has a wheelbase of
2.65m. Weight is distributed 41% up
front and 59% to the back. They use
265/ 30 R19 Pirelli P-Zero tyres for the front end and 345/30 R20 at the rear,
with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes
giving stopping power.
We don’t know exactly how much this thing will cost for the
Mzansi connoisseur, but we reckon it
will be about R20 million a piece. That’s
about as much as what uncle Cyril
was willing to pop out for a prized buffalo…
20 bar is a little too steep for my budget. But I like the car anyway.
