BMW reported
record sales for the month of August, off the back of popular models
like the 1, 3 and even niche 6 Series
worldwide. According to official
figures, the BMW Group as a whole sold 121 615
cars last month of the brands BMW, MINI
and Rolls-Royce. This was an increase of 9.7%
over August 2011 figures.
In South Africa a
total of 2 520 cars went off
the sales floors, including 2 305
BMW-branded and 215 MINIs. The
leader of the pack as usual, was the 3 Series (F30) with 1 171 units sold. Since January BMW SA has shifted 19 133 vehicles, or an average of
2 391 per month. These remain the best
numbers by the company so far in its history.
Ian Robertson, member of the Board of
Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Marketing BMW, and a former BMW South Africa CEO said: “We achieved
record sales once again in August. Models such as the BMW 1 and BMW 3 Series,
the BMW X1 and X3, as well as the BMW 6 Series reported strong gains and made a
positive contribution to our record
sales performance last month. We expect further
gains in the coming months and we are absolutely on track to achieve a new sales record in 2012. We will
continue to aim for a healthy balance
in sales between Europe, Asia and the Americas, in both mature and emerging markets.”
