NEW PORSCHE CAYENNE GTS IS COMING

Porsche announced the new 2012 Cayenne GTS, an SUV mostly associated with sporting prowess. Not that other Cayennes aren’t sporty, but the GTS is made even sportier through certain styling and mechanical differentiators. Like the fact that it squats 2.4cm lower than the rest for instance. GTS is priced between the Cayenne S and the Cayenne Turbo.

To make it look more special, Porsche changed a few exterior items. One, there’s a front end said to be inspired by the Turbo. There are also prominent side skirts, wider wheel arches and high-gloss black window finishes.

The interior is decked in Alcantara and leather apparel. The seats are sporty, both front and rear, featuring some bespoke stitching along the seams. Unlike the previous-generation Cayenne GTS which had a 6-speed manual, this one is driven by an automatic 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated (no turbos) V8 engine displacing 4.8-litres. It kicks out 309kW at 6500rpm, and peak torque is 515Nm at a relatively low 3500rpm. A 0 – 100km/h time of 5.7 seconds is claimed, with top speed limited to 261 km/h. Not bad for a car that weighs two tonnes. It is said you’ll be able to travel for about 795km from a full single 85 litre tank.

While there’s no South African pricing yet, you can already order your Cayenne GTS in your desired colour combination.
