Jaguar, at the 2012 New York International Auto Show,
confirmed it will begin selling a brand new
model range. Called the F-Type, the
new car will add to existing XF sedan, XF Sportbrake, XJ and XK Coupe/Convertible
range.
The F-Type is strictly a two-seater roadster, and thus enters the market of cars like the Porsche 911 and Audi R8. Soon even those on a lower budget will get to style the
streets in a little sexy convertible
Jaguar. It will be constructed from aluminium
and be offered with a new team of petrol engines. Nothing’s been said of these,
but we can speculate they will be mostly force-fed,
either by turbo or supercharger. Whatever
they are, Jaguar promises “stunning” sports
car performance. Details will be announced later this year.
“We showed the C-X16 Concept in September 2011, and the reaction to it has been so positive that
we've accelerated our development of
an all-new Jaguar sports car,” said Adrian
Hallmark, Jaguar Global Brand Director. “That car will be called the F-Type,
and it will be unveiled in production form later this year. The core appeal of Jaguar's cars is their
sporting heart, and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F-Type.
Its development is a vivid
representation of the confidence and
ambition of the Jaguar brand, and the desire amongst our engineers and design
team to produce a world-leader in a
market segment that we have been absent from for too long. But no longer – the F-Type
is coming.”
The Jaguar F-Type starts selling in 2013 and is almost a certainty
for the Mzansi market as well.
