The South African car market
showed some dull growth, according
to February sales figures. Up less
than 1% in both total market and
passenger market, the industry nevertheless grew 2.8% on reported January sales. All in all 49 556 vehicles found new homes
last month.
Leading the pack as usual were Toyota and Volkswagen, both
taking the lion’s share respectively in the light commercial and passenger
segment. For instance, the VW Polo took top honours for the first time, following many months behind its cheaper
sister Polo Vivo. In light
commercials, the Toyota Hilux
remains king of the mountain by a massive margin, followed by the new Chevrolet Utility, itself a small
bakkie segment leader.
