Citroen South
Africa has made one of its boldest
moves yet, following its introduction of the DS3 Racing in ultra-limited numbers in June last year. They have announced that come
June this year, the DS3 155 THP Ultra Prestige
will knock down our doors and make direct rivals like the Alfa Romeo MiTo look twice.
Without increasing capacity, the car
is tuned for a good helping of power in the form of 115kW and 240Nm of pulling torque, both of which are par for the course. The gearbox is a 6-speed manual. Although there are no numbers given, we think it’s
capable of a 0 – 100km/h time of around 8 seconds.
“Improving on a car that is so highly regarded is something
that many would shy away from,” says
Didier Gerard MD of Citroen South
Africa. “However Citroen have managed to do just that with a model that has
every feature you could ever want in a new car. The DS3 Ultra Prestige combines
sophisticated style, premium specifications and all the
distinctive personality of the Citroen
DS line.”
A number of differentiators
are at play in order to set 155 THP Ultra Prestige apart from its brethren. As if the name itself wasn’t enough. Here we talk of 17-inch charcoal-grey alloy wheels, dark tinted windows on the sides, black
mirrors with a dark chrome base, dark chrome side rubbing strips, front grille
surround, front fog light surrounds
and an insert on the rear number plate moulding. It only either comes in – Banquise White with an Onyx black roof, or Obsidian Black with an Opale White roof.
Standard interior features include automatic air conditioning, a Bluetooth enabled sound system,
Citroen’s integrated MyWay colour
satellite navigation system and rear parking sensors among others.
It’s priced at R296 000, which is a whopping R103 000 less than the limited 152kW DS3 Racing.
