MERCEDES-BENZ CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC FOR 2012

Automotive News Europe says it has obtained a letter written by Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, in which he paints a cautiously optimistic picture about his company, to his employees. Despite the ever-threatening second world economic crisis in as many years, Zetsche says his company will lead the premium segment through its Mercedes-Benz brand before the year 2020.

Of course he’ll have to outsell current leader BMW, whose own heels are being snapped at by Volkswagen Group’s star performer Audi. Audi overtook Mercedes-Benz this year to become the world’s second biggest premium car seller.

In order to achieve these goals, Merc is launching a raft of new products, mostly starting in 2012. This year we’ve already seen the European introduction of cars like the all-new 2012 ML-Class and SLS AMG Roadster. Next year continues with SL-Class, B-Class, as well as first glimpses of the next A-Class and facelift E-Class. In total, six new models enter the fray in 2012. Hopefully Mzansi gets all six, including the frantic C 63 AMG Black Series and sizzling SLK 55 AMG.
