BRAND NEW TURBO ENGINE FOR CADILLAC ATS

What looks like a really sweet engine has been unveiled by the good folks at General Motors USA. The new 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor will debut in the Cadillac ATS that’s to be shown at the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next month. Its figures show very good promise.

The last GM engine of this size with this much promise was in the Opel Astra OPC which had 177kW. This one is not tuned for performance apparently, but smoothness and power. Displacing 2.0-litres with a twin-scroll turbo and direct injection, the unit makes 201kW and 353Nm of torque, giving it a power to size ratio of 100.5kW per litre.

Whether other GM products will benefit from it is rather only known to GM at this point. However, it may very well be related to the upcoming Astra OPC’s, which has been confirmed at 206kW.

“This engine is the perfect match for the new ATS, which will be a refined performance luxury sedan,” said Don Butler, Cadillac vice president of Global Marketing. “The 2.0T has an exceptionally smooth and responsive power curve that will make the ATS nimble, quick and fun to drive.”
