Opel Astra OPC. Three words that put fear into the hearts and souls of drivers of competitive hot hatches. And it’s the volcano of Opel hatches. Based on the current Astra, we expect to see it in South Africa some time in 2012, with its 4-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo engine. Previous OPC was used to 177kW, but this one has gained quite a few more kiloWatts to surpass it.
Getting down straight to it, we have a direct injection turbo unit maxing out 206kW through the front wheels, as well as 400Nm of torque. Developed by the Opel Performance Centre (OPC), the Astra can reach a top end of 250km/h
An exclusive high performance chassis that includes a limited slip differential (LSD) on the front axle ensures top notch handling, according to GM. Also thanks to something called HiPerStrut (High Performance Strut) and a fully-adaptive FlexRide chassis control system, drivers are supposedly elevated to racing champions at heart.
With sculptured front and rear bumpers, OPC side skirts, a rear roof spoiler, two trapezoidal tailpipes and a flat-bottomed steering wheel among others, the Astra OPC stands out like an NBA player on the streets of Shanghai.
oPC is da best out there
