When it comes to the world of cars, life outside of Mzansi appears
very cheap. Evidence presented is enormous, and Ferrari isn’t saying the
opposite either. Just look at the sticker price for the 458 Italia Spider. In Europe, the rich will be able to buy this
sweet machine of desire for the sweet price of a Porsche 911 GT3.
As a Euro aficionado,
you can pick up a brand new example of the topless Italian for the equivalent
of R1.7 million in today’s prices. One
pays R200 000 more for an AudiR8 V10 in Mzansi! But of course for SA, Ferrari importers Viglietti Motors will charge their premium, and so will the state. In the end if you are up for hair
raising performance with looks to thrill, expect to part with close on R4 million. That’s more than twice what
they pay north of the Mediterranean!
The Ferrari 458 Italia Spider has a 4.5-litre V8 engine spewing out 419kW and 540Nm of
torque. They say it can go from standstill to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds.
If the SA prices you mention are true then Ferrari will never reach the heights of Porsche's current sales.
