UK giant publication Auto Express has the lowdown on the upcoming BMW M2. The rag spoke to BMW’s new M Division Managing Director Dr Friedrich Nitschke who pretty much admitted to AE that an M2 was in the works. The rest of the details came from an unnamed source who seems to know all about the new M.
Word is the new car will be based on the purported 2 Series, a family of sporty coupes and sports cars with an inkling to take on other expensive 2-seaters like the Audi TT and Porsche Cayman. The Z4 is now quite grown up and will no longer be seen to be competing in this segment. It will be powered by one of two engines, either a variation of the 3.0-litre turbo with 250kW or a new tri-turbo engine that no one else has tried out. The M2 would arrive on the scene only in 2014 or 2015.
A secondary bit of bit of news is that BMW could be going straight after the Lamborghini franchise with an all-new super powerful, supercar apparently in the works. This is in addition, supposedly, to the i8 hybrid that goes to European showrooms in a year’s time or so.

Side profile makes it look like an Alfa. But I understand this is just an artist picture not the real deal.
