NEXT AUDI A6 AVANT DETAILED

Audi’s A6 sedan has spawned a wagon or Avant version, and this is what it’s all about. Although these body types don’t sell at all in Mzansi, in Europe they are quite big, so to speak. Audi traditionally makes really good-looking wagons and the A6 Avant is no different. Despite increases in dimensions, the new Avant weighs 70kg less than its predecessor.

Avant is all about the space and at worst the boot carries 565 litres of luggage. With second-row seats folded down, that number goes up to 1680 litres. The convenient remote boot control is provided. Other luxury conveniences include the MMI with internet, a 1300 watt Bang & Olufsen sound system, head up display and so on.

Engines will include a naturally aspirated 2.8-litre petrol pushing along 150kW, and a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 going for 220kW. For the diesel fanatic an entry-level 2.0-litre TDI is good for 130kW and 380Nm, followed by a 3.0 V6 TDI worth 150kW and 400Nm, as well as a 180kW, 500Nm version of the same engine. Later on Audi will compete in the mid-sized super diesel market with a 230kW motor. No torque figure was released for that but we expect at least 590Nm.

There is doubt as to whether Audi SA will provide the new A6 Avant to the market. After all, they’ve sold less than 20 units of the previous-generation Avant over the past 6 years.

  1. Granted Estates aren't the thing in SA but this one is quite nice. I like the Volvo V60 too by the way.
