Mercedes-Benz has released the first official pictures and details of the upcoming SLS AMG Roadster, a car cut out to be the fastest convertible in the company’s lineup. Of course unlike its coupe brethren, the Roadster will not feature those iconic gullwing doors which swing up to the sky when being opened. The roof type is canvass, so none of that hard-top latest-fashion trend going on here.
While it’s covered in sticky tape on several parts, it’s quite clear exactly what car it is. Inside the engine bay lies the same 6.2-litre naturally aspirated (no turbo, no supercharger) V8 worth 420kW. Its determination should propel the car from 0 – 100km/h in just 4 seconds under ideal conditions.
The soft roof can be opened or closed in just 11 seconds, even at speeds of up to 50km/h, great for operating even when cruising on the freeway approaching certain rainfall.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster will debut at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show on 13 September. Hopefully the following month it will be shown at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS). Only in 2012 can we expect it to arrive in Mzansi at a price around R3 million.

ReplyDeleteSo far so good. Pity about those gullwing doors. I understand though, can't see how they could have placed them.
