REAR VIEW CAMERA FOR UPCOMING FORD RANGER BAKKIE

The all-new Ford Ranger bakkie which comes to Mzansi later this year, will be the first bakkie in the country to be offered with a rear-view camera to assist those of use with a bad sense of depth and possibly direction. Rear-view cameras are not new in the market; most of the upmarket executive sedans do offer them either as standard or optionally. For the first time a utility vehicle will benefit from this technology too.

In contrast to these more expensive systems whose view point is normally through an LCD screen located somewhere on the dashboard. But just like the system used by Hyundai, this Ford Ranger has placed its screen on the interior rear view mirror. The camera itself is located on the Ford emblem at the rear.

“With the unique Rear View Camera System, reversing has never been easier. It’s a great feature to help drivers detect obstacles on construction sites or in the driveway of your home,” said Craig Sprenger, Ranger Launch Leader, Electrical Engineering. “The lines that mark Ranger’s size make it so much simpler to reverse into tight parking spots, and the centre line takes the guesswork out of hooking up to a trailer.”

Ranger will be one of the first Ford vehicles in the Asia Pacific and Africa region to offer the advanced rear view camera system. We should be able to see it live at JIMS in October.
