Mercedes-Benz South Africa has once again come out ahead of the competition, winning the Gauteng Exporter Award for 2010 against a host of entrants.
The awards are sponsored by industry heavyweights First National Bank, the Department of Trade and Industry, Credit Guarantee, Glenrand MIB, Safcor Panalpina and Intertek. The annual event, attended by some 200 senior executives engaged in international trade and government officials, provided an exciting opportunity to recognise the 2009 achievements of the province’s exporters.
The 10th anniversary of the JCCI - FNB Gauteng Exporter of the Year Awards showcased companies whose tenacity, resilience and perseverance enabled them, against all odds, to maintain and even grow their markets overseas in a global recession, which posed a significant downside risk for exporters and all parties involved in the trading cycle. For the province’s exporters, being situated at the tip of Africa means that they must deal with the challenge of the high cost of transport, infrastructural deficiencies and complex distribution channels.
"The winner of the 2010 Exporter Awards, MBSA, which exports C-Class cars and automotive components, exemplifies how minute attention to detail, technological excellence and stringent quality standards deliver a product that holds its own against competitors around the world," said the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) in a statement.
"The importance of exports for GDP growth and job creation cannot be overestimated. The Exporter Awards celebration provides an opportunity to identify successful role-models in international trade and contributes to creating an export-orientation in the Gauteng business community.
"The finalists would be regarded as success stories anywhere in the world and they prove that South African companies are able to compete with the best on innovation, technology and service," concluded the JCCI.
