BARDEN TYRE TEAM AIMS FOR CONTINUED SUCCESSES

A fine third place finish in the recent Sun City 400 has resuscitated Thomas Rundle and Juan Mohr’s challenge in the 2010 Absa Off Road Championship and the Barden Tyre Services Racing pair will be confident as they take on the 4x4 Mega World 400, round five of the series at Carnival City this weekend (August 27 and 28).
 

Rundle and former national champion off road racing co-driver Juan Mohr enjoyed their best result of their first season together in the Barden Tyre Services Racing Nissan Navara at Sun City and Barden, who has successfully made his way through the Production Vehicle category ranks from the entry-level class F to the premier SP class, will feel vindicated at his decision to buy one of last year’s all-conquering factory Nissan Navaras.

“It had been a frustrating season up to the Sun City event,” he said.  “Juan and I have hit it off well, but we have not had the best of luck in the first two events we competed in and technical problems resulted in non-finishes on both occasions.  But I knew we had a good car and even without factory backing, I was confident it would be a hard car to beat and it proved itself last time out.

“We both feel much better now and hope we can have a clean run this weekend.  If we do we are confident we can get another good result.”

Rundle and Mohr led the production cars overall 139 km into the Sun City event, but were hampered by two punctures.  Otherwise, the Nissan ran like clockwork, as did the other ex-factory Nissan of Terence Marsh and Buks Carolin, which won overall after a clean run.

“We’ve had privateers win three of the first four events and this gives us a lot of confidence,” added Rundle.

While Barden Tyre Services is the principal sponsor, the team also enjoys a mutually beneficial relationship with other partners and suppliers like Dunlop tyres, Autozone, Hausberger and Associates, Maxwell Design and Advertising, Willard batteries and Cedar Chem.
