The all-new Volkswagen Touareg was premiered at the Geneva International Motor Show. VW is very keen to make this car as successful as its predecessor by making sure it has ticked all the right boxes.
Styling-wise this car is basically the same as the new Porsche Cayenne (the two share the same family genes anyway). It has the new VW family face and is a little more muscular in appearance. The company says it’s the most technically advanced VW ever produced, which should say quite a lot. We’ll reveal a bit more on those advances, like how they managed to save 208kg on the previous car, when it’s launched in South Africa in October this year.
Some engines fitted into the new Touareg include a V6 TDI producing 176kW and a stomping 550Nm of torque. The old V10 TDI has been replaced by a 4.2 TDI kicking out 250kW and a stupendous 800Nm. A new Hybrid version is also being produced but I doubt we’ll see that one in Mzansi. With new C02 emissions legislation coming into the fore this September, I may well be wrong.
Other things you can find are a Side Assist Warning system, Adaptive Cruise Control, something called Area View which looks basically all around the car and bi-xenon headlights.
They could have at least come out with a V12 TDI like the Audi Q7 (368 kW @ 3 750 rpm), and not the same engine tweaked. Something that would give the Q7 a run for its money. The Touareg used be king of diesel SUV's in terms of performance...Very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteagreed Oxo though audi and vw can't really compete with same or similar cars i heard
ReplyDeleteI hear ya Oxo, but fitting that nuclear power V12 TDi in the VW will price it WAY out of the veedub market. Make no mistake, that 4.2 TDi aint no slouch...
ReplyDeleteBoys and their toys. i want a pink one - Shirley S.
ReplyDeleteLol Shirley S!!! I hear you, but I don't think they they come in pink.
ReplyDeleteMamfene, my issue with some manufactures is that they're lazy so to speak i.e. Golf 6 GTI. They bring a completely new car into the market and it’s the slowest in its segment. The old Renault Megan is quicker, so too is the Ford Focus ST and Audi S3. That just does not make sense to me. By coming out with a new a car you’re suppose to go the top of the pile and set the “new” bar well at least in terms of performance. Hence the Touareg should have done than, in my mind anyway. @ Anonymous, does it mean that VW CC should not compete with the A4 or A5 seeing they’re from the same stable??? Completion is good.
Just my 2c
you have too much pasion Oxo for this car. to me it's boring finish and klaar. Mayb ethe engines are cool - Shirley S
