AutoWeek claims that Volkswagen has approved the production of a BlueSport-based roadster. The report says it will cost potential buyers some US$30 000 (R240 800). The little BlueSport Concept made its debut at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit this January.
VW has always had a thing for cabriolets with every second-generation Golf having a cab version. The last one, the Golf V, did not have a cabriolet but instead we got a really cool car called the Eos which was very good fun to drive.
The BlueSport Concept however, is a two-seater roadster so it would compete not with cars like the Audi A3 Cabriolet or the BMW 1 Series Convertible, but with the Mazda’s cute MX-5. Should VW pursue the car to its finish then I think engines like the 1.4 TSI (90kW and 118kW) and 2.0 TSI (147kW) would provide the bulk of firepower while a 195kW R version cannot discounted as a possibility.
