HONDA SAYS: Dirkie Baard L43 & Juan Coetzee L3 picked up where they left off at the Roof of Africa with 2 podiums at the Timberland 400. To start the 3rd rounds of the Off Road National championship on a high with Dirkie put his HMF powered Race Nation Windhoek Honda on pole and Juan in 8th after Friday afternoon's time trial.
Dirkie Baard Started Saturday's race cautiously as traction & vision was a problem. Dirkie let the 2nd place rider by and decided to follow for a while. Juan Coetzee had a solid start on his Elka equipped Race Nation Honda and soon made it into the top five.
After the first 90kms loop Dirkie Baard started gaining his confidence and re-took the lead. L3, Coetzee had made his way up to fourth position. Both Race Nation Honda mounted pilots maintained their pace for the remainder of the race to keep their positions. Confusion at the last service point cost Dirkie valuable time, he had to service his quad himself for the final stretch and this cost him dearly as the rider in 2nd took the lead and never looked back.
After an almost perfect weekend the 2 Honda Race Nation mounted pilots still came away with excellent results, this strengthening their position in the championships. Dirkie placed 2nd Overall and 1st in the hotly contested Pro 450 for the event, ensured that he continues to lead both Championships. Juan Coetzee placed 4th Overall and 3rd in the Pro 450 for the event, leaving Juan Coetzee 3rd in both Championships.
